Course FAQ’s

Perfumes and Aftershaves

We ask that you refrain from wearing perfumes and aftershaves as the scent can distract from the aroma of the wine.

Standard Drinks - Please be aware of this if you are driving.

We encourage responsible consumption of alcohol.

On an evening Wine Course, eight to ten 30ml pours is the equivalent of approximately 2-3 standard drinks.

On a Weekend Understanding Wine Course, you will be consuming approximately 16 pours of 30 ml per day, including fortified wine. This is the equivalent of approximately 5-6 standard drinks over the whole day.

Spittoons are provided if you wish to use them.

Facilities at the National Wine Centre

The café and wine bar at the centre opens at 9am for breakfasts and coffee on the weekends and for dinner until 7pm on weeknights.

Lunch for weekend courses

A light lunch is supplied as part of your course fees for the weekend course. Please email us if you have any dietary restrictions or requirement as soon as possible.


Adelaide Metro buses including the O-Bahn bring you to the National Wine Centre bus stop either on Botanic Road (Stop 1) or on Hackney Road (Stop 2). For more information about itineraries and timetables contact Adelaide Metro toll free: 1300 311 108 or view the Adelaide Metro Web Site.

Adelaide City Council Free Connector Bus, Stop 5 (Royal Adelaide Hospital) then a short stroll through the Botanic Gardens or along Botanic Road. View the Adelaide City Council Web Site.

Arriving by Taxi
For the National Wine Centre ask the driver to drop you off at the Hackney Road entrance.

The National Wine Centre provides bicycle rails underneath the main entrance ramp.


Due to the O-Bahn Extension program on Hackney Road, there is limited parking available and access to the parking area changes regularly. We suggest that you allow yourself plenty of time to find parking.

Parking is available in parking bays off Hackney Road (north of North Tce intersection) and on Plane Tree Drive in Botanic Park. Parking is Adelaide City Council Pay and Display metered parking allowing between 4 and 10 hours, depending on the distance from the Wine Centre

First Bay – Hackney Road (1 minute walk)

Pay and Display
Maximum of 4 hours between 8am – 6pm, Monday- Saturday
$2.20 per hour
Free parking after 5.30pm, Monday – Sunday

Participants travelling North on Hackney Road please note that there is right hand turn access into Plane Tree Drive off Hackney Road but no right hand turn giving you direct access into the National Wine Centre. To be able to access the National Wine centre car park you would need to either travel further up Hackney Road, over North Terrace and then perform a UTurn where allowed placing yourself on the correct side of Hackney Road to access the carpark entrance or alternatively you will need to travel to North Terrace, past the Royal Adelaide Hospital, to be able to turn left on Hackney Road to access the carpark entrance.

Certificates of Attendance will be issued to those that have completed the course. If you miss a session and wish to attend a catch up class, please contact our office to re-arrange your classes (subject to availability)

$235 – the cost of one person attending our Understanding Wine five-week course, an in depth look into wine styles, varieties, blends, and regions.

$245 – the cost of one person attending our Understanding Wine course presented over two consecutive Saturdays.
