The South Australian Wine Industry Association will host 8 South Australian wineries on 13 May at the State Library of South Australia, for A Taste of Wine History, a pop-up wine event, bringing together wine and history as a part of South Australia’s 2022 History Festival.
Take a step back in time in the stunning Morlock Wing and immerse yourself in the tastes and tales of Bec Hardy Wines, Golding Wines, Karrawatta, Kay Brothers, Liebichwein, Majella Wines, Schild Estate Wines and Woodstock Wines.
There are 2, two-hour sessions for this event, the first 3pm to 5pm and the second 6pm to 8pm. As a very special treat, a lecture from historian Carolyn Spooner titled ‘Wonderful World of Wine’, will take place in the intermission between the two sessions at 5.15pm. This is free but bookings are essential to secure your place.
“Winemaking is an integral part of the South Australian story, reflected in the State Library’s collections of historical and contemporary material,” Carolyn Spooner said. “The State Library can trace the origins of the South Australian Wine Industry Association in our collections back to wine aficionado, chemist and booklover, Henry Watson in 1838. Find out about the ongoing connection between Thomas Hardy & Sons, now Accolade Wines, and the State Library.”
Included in the $20 (+ booking fee) ticket price for A Taste of Wine History sessions is an individual cheese platter served up by Food Lore. Additionally, a Great Wine Capital wine glass is yours to keep and two tasting tokens for the wineries in attendance are allocated to you to redeem. Once your tasting tokens have been exchanged, wine will be available for purchase directly from the wineries by the half-glass, glass or bottle, or packaged and taken home.
A Taste of Wine History is presented by the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) and Adelaide, South Australia – a Great Wine Capital of the World.
